Every major shipping line adds an emergency fuel surcharge on Australian trades

Freight forwarder DDW Logistics reported on 18 March 2026 that the Strait of Hormuz conflict forced vessels to reroute via the Cape of Good Hope, adding 3,500 to 4,000 nautical miles, and that oil above US$100 a barrel triggered surcharges on every trade lane. All are on top of base freight and existing bunker adjustment factors.
